I thought I would enjoy the huge attic that was in the house I bought. I figured I would fill it up with all kinds of stuff, but that never happened. I am just not the pack rat type, I suppose. That left me with an impressive amount of space that I really was not using. When my son asked me if we could convert it into a bedroom, I thought that was a great idea. He is 13 years old, and he shared a bedroom with two younger brothers. I contacted a builder in Bristol to see if it was feasible.
The man I wanted to hire came out that same week, and he took a look at the attic space. He told me that not only would we be able to convert it into a bedroom, but that there was enough space up there to build two nice sized rooms if that was what I wanted. I considered that my two younger sons would probably each want their own room soon enough, so I opted to go with the two rooms in the attic. My older son was a bit bummed because he thought the entire attic would be his, but he is still pretty happy with the outcome.
His room is slightly bigger because of the shape of the attic. He has two windows, and the ceiling is not sloped at all so he is not restricted like he would be in most other attics. My middle son's room is slightly smaller but still has two windows. There is a very tiny hallway that connects the two where the stairs are leading up to the attic. They were hoping I would leave the ladder, but I had the builder construct normal steps. They may be young enough to climb ladders, but I am not! The final look is perfect, and it is still hard to believe that all three of my sons have their own bedrooms now.
